#DRC 's hunger crisis is escalating.

6.7 million people in the East urgently need food. But we only have enough $$ to reach 1.2 million people. Families are being displaced, farms are being destroyed & hunger is spreading.

World Food Programme needs $567m to scale-up emergency relief ASAP.

'I served as a humanitarian in Sudan years ago. It's very emotional for me to come back and see the suffering at an even larger scale.

We need all parties to the conflict to stop the war.'

It is the 25th violation of an IDP site so far this year.

'What we are seeing is an absolutely devastating humanitarian crisis. This is not business as usual', Deputy Director UN Humanitarian, @Sofiegarde describing the humanitarian situation in North Kivu after visiting IDP sites.

« La situation est très difficile. La réponse humanitaire peut faire une grande différence face à la faim, aux épidémies et aux violences basées sur le genre, mais les besoins sont au-delà de nos capacités actuelles », a ajouté @Sofiegarde.

« Il s’agit d’une crise humanitaire désastreuse » dixit @Sofiegarde, parlant des plus de 6 millions de personnes déplacées à travers le pays. « Plus de 200 000 d'entre elles ont été déplacées depuis début 2023 par des violences extrêmes en Ituri, où j'y étais aussi ».

Arrivée en #RDC depuis lundi, Sofie Garde Thomle, directrice adjointe UN Humanitarian, a visité des sites de déplacés autour de Goma pour palper du doigt le quotidien des centaines de milliers de personnes déplacées qui y vivent depuis le début de l’année.

Pour renforcer notre réponse humanitaire aux déplacés (soudanais & centrafricains), notre avion cargo a atterri ce matin a Birao avec 4691 kgs de matériels acheminés par UNHCR CAR UNICEF République centrafricaine UNFPA République Centrafricaine OIM République Centrafricaine OMS Centrafrique. Le PAM a livré des aliments pour 20.000 personnes

I was in Djibo in October last year and the situation was absolutely dire.

Things have improved since then when humanitarians were able to fly in aid, and I hope they continue to improve with this commercial road convoy.
