When a riverwall in central Barking came up for refurbishment, we worked with Crown Estate & the contractor to protect & extend the rare urban Sand Martin colony on the Roding. It’s wonderful to see works now complete & the martins have returned ready to use their new nests.

Our volunteers do their best to look after the river they love, but are fighting a losing battle against a tide of plastic & disposable packaging. We need a Deposit Return Scheme & manufacturer/retailer responsibility for packaging NOW

A local resident in Barking uses riverside benches River Roding Trust have installed so often, I jokingly call her “our favourite customer”. I told her recently I was sad that vandals had destroyed a lovely fruit tree we’d planted. Last night I came home to find this by my gate

Big turnout at the public meeting meeting last night: there was a clear feeling in the room that we can stop this stupidly destructive proposal before it starts, but we need to act fast & decisively. More details soon on how everyone can help with this.

Hi Thames Water thanks for getting back to me. Please can you detail (giving specific amounts of money, outfall locations & timescales) how much you intend to spend on infrastructure on the River Roding over next decade & whether this will stop you committing crimes on the river?

A huge thanks to all volunteers who came out with us & RodingRubbish today to clear the huge amounts of rubbish, litter & fly tipping from some of the most precious habitats in London: the tidal reedbeds of the lower Roding. This is love, care & guardianship for nature in action

Huge, protected green spaces by River Roding Trust, fenced off, inaccessible, a wasted asset for local people. Thanks Zoë Garbett for committing to bringing sites like this back into use, and designating them as parks and nature reserves in the London Plan. #TenNewParks

It was great to show Zoe around some of the disused green sauces that we want to open to the public & enrich for nature & wildlife as part of our ‘Roding Edgelands’ project. Wild space is so needed in East London & creating & opening more of it would be a popular policy.

Works on river wall replacement beside London Road in Barking are coming on. Excitingly, new sand martin nesting holes requested by the River Roding Trust are beginning to be installed ready to provides new homes for these incredible birds when they return to the Roding in spring
