Mahanadi river is the southernmost limits of Gharials in India. It was on the verge of getting locally extinct.

Today early morning 35 gharial hatchlings were dug out by mother from the nest.
4th time in a row, gharial are naturally breeding in Satkosia gorge after 4 decades.

Wetlands and swamps are respites for many from this scorching heat. Terai is famous for their swamp deers and they are the State animal of Uttar Pradesh. 🦌

Blood pheasant is the State bird of Sikkim. It is locally called ‘chilimey’ in Nepali and ‘semo’ in Bhutia. A high altitude Himalayan bird of north east.

DYK that sexual dimorphism makes males look different and more colourful than females in pheasants.

A dutch colony which was named New Amsterdam became New York when Britishers acquired it by leaving Surinam. A port which has seen people from almost every part of world disembarking here in last 400 years. A lesser known city which has millions of untold stories to tell.
