Sometimes as riders we can't take our hands of the reins... We may feel our horse behave differently, or see a potential threat over the hedge or further up. We are always over the moon even if we can't always show it.

Horses are flight animals. Not all horses are good with dogs, especially when they go in the horses blind spots (the horses can't see at certain points- directly in front of them and behind them)

For the safety of everyone, keep your dog's away from horses.

Passing horses - Most drivers are aware to pass a horse 'WIDE AND SLOW'
Slow down - to max of 10mph
Be patient - do NOT sound horn or rev engine
Wide and slow - pass the horse allowing at least 2 meters of space when possible
Drive slowly away
Take extra care on rural roads

Pass wide and slow ThatGuyOnTheBike Any body that encourages their members to accede to drivers views of “courtesy” and “respect” does not have their members interests at heart. Safety, yes; and report to police. But drivers want clear roads so they can fulfil the promise of car ads;ie “get out of my way” courtesy

Not all horse riders are perfect. But it's the drivers who drive dangerously are the issues and who kill.

With the attitude of drivers, Im sure many drivers would love to report riders even if done nothing wrong.

E.g not thanking, not pulling over to let cars pass = reporting

We've been out conducting Op Close Pass today in the Coombe Hill area after reports from local riders of difficulty with drivers passing too fast & close. We worked with our Rural Crime Team - Gloucestershire Constabulary colleagues & spoke to several drivers about their manner of driving
