Enormously frustrating listening to curriculum discussions on Start The Week on Radio 4 about Physics. The complaint is that GCSE physics is the same as when the people discussing the issue studied the subject — but that is *exactly what you’d expect*.

My takeaway: ‘Tricks’ (e.g. mnemonics) *can* help pupils to remember stuff. The problem? They tend to lack meaning! So if we want kids to remember things imbued with meaning, then we might want to think carefully about whether such tricks are appropriate ☝🏽
