For everyone trying to evaluate the effects on favorable winds and the discus throw, unless you have been out there throwing those kinds of distances in various conditions please give it a pause. It's not that simple. It's a beautiful event take it for what it is . Enjoy.

Wilcox Track & Field Beau Throws True.
As stated prior, for all the crappy days and horrible facilities that discus throwers had to endure, it’s only more than fair to get optimal conditions once in a while - especially for those from the Northeast and Upper Midwest……..

Beau Throws Rene van de Ven National Throws I agree. But even that is hard to evaluate. It's hard to say what was happening that day down there. Many people threw well men and women. Only they know how well.

Agree! The winds in Oklahoma were huge. Great day to throw a discus for right handed throwers. The wind, however, accounted for a minimum of 10% of the total distance. If you threw 200’, that would be approximately 180’ with no wind.

Wilcox Track & Field Beau Throws Our guess is the throw would have been about 220’ on a still day. The wind was good for at least 20’, possibly 30’. We always thought 224’ by Mac Wilkins at the ‘76 Olympics was perhaps the greatest throw of all time. Montreal’s Stadium was almost entirely enclosed, zero wind.
