My most doomer tendencies coincided with my most depressed time in my life, and the doomerism and depression fed on one another because depression is always able to find evidence to continue itself.

Jamaica requiring US minimum parking-requirements is another example of 'premature imitation' that Shruti Rajagopalan and I wrote about in the case of India.

People seem skeptical of this like it's prima facie absurd but Pew had 19% of voters in 2020 not voting in 2016 or 2018.

32% of Americans in new Pew survey say β€œan abortion decision should belong solely to the pregnant woman” AND say β€œlife begins at conception so an embryo is a person with rights' describes their views at least somewhat well

i.e. many are cross-pressured

These two tweeters seem confused to me.

But, yes, Biden's electoral problem is with moderate voters not with leftist ones. He needs to court them more and ideally leftist influencers would be happy to see him do it.

I don't totally agree with the authors' interpretation, but probably underrated that younger people have a much more zero-sum worldview.

IF Republicans win in 2024, it will mean ~$800 or more hike in health insurance premiums for people who buy health care on their own.

First tweet is correct, second tweet is crazy.

The focus on the policymaking isn't driven by the 'poll-driven consultant class' it's driven by the people who demand policy change!

Ask yourself who would be mad if Biden hadn't done ambitious policymaking? Not consultants!

Obviously people have strong feelings about the Biden administration's approach, but I think underrated that Trump really might just greenlight genocide.

Speaking for myself at least, I am not happy about this. I do not want Trump to be president again, and I do believe he would be worse in all respects including on Palestine. That's why I hope people will focus on making the case for Biden and against Biden's opponent.

Note for posterity: voting for Trone tomorrow in the primary. Don't see major policy diffs btwn him & Alsobrooks & both seem relatively likely to beat Hogan (maybe a _little_ bit more for Trone). His self-funding doesn't steal $ from MT, OH + TV unit rate sealed it for me.

The ticket-splitting was craziest in Nevada, which is ground zero for Biden's demographic challenges.
Nearly one-third of Trump's young and Hispanic supporters backed the Democrat Jackie Rosen for Senate, enough for her to run 14 points ahead of Biden

I think a lot of Baby Boomers who felt in 1968 that Hubert Humphrey was no great shakes and that expressive antiwar politics was the most important thing in the world came to feel by 10-20 years later that trying to beat Nixon would've been good.
