I wrote a tribute to my favorite part of ‘X-Men ’97’: Magneto’s hair, which is not only thick and lustrous, it subtly defines his character. (Or not so subtly, HIS BANGS FORM AN M YOU GUYS) screencrush.com/magnetos-hair-…

One of my favorite movies, and one of the titles featured in the appendix of Opposable Thumbs. I will definitely be picking up the 4K.

My tribute to the last ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ an episode built so poetically around the concept of spite it redeemed one of the most reviled finales in TV history. screencrush.com/curb-finale-se…

I love movies. I love reading. I loved Matt Singer / mattsinger.bsky.social’s book, Opposable Thumbs. Highly recommend for anyone who loves talking about movies. If anyone needs me, I’ll be on YouTube watching Siskel & Ebert clips for the foreseeable future.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up for OPPOSABLE THUMBS: HOW SISKEL AND EBERT CHANGED MOVIES FOREVER by MATT SINGER, which I absolutely adored.

It’s a compulsively engaging, sharply and accessibly written, and incredibly informative deep dive into the title film critics.

Have become slightly obsessed with Googles “People Also Ask” section and the incredibly weird things people ask about movies... screencrush.com/dumb-questions…

AMERICAN MOVIE is, among many other things, among the best movies about scraping by in the American Midwest, about alcoholism, about what end-of-life looks like, and about how it feels to be dragged unwillingly into adulthood. And it’s funny as hell. An enduring miracle.

Rewatching AMERICAN MOVIE now because of this piece & even the opening minutes hit like a gut punch. It should be mandatory yearly viewing for every struggling creative wondering whether to throw in the towel or keep going. Because the answer is always keep going.

had a similar experience, I first watched it laughing w/other people. Then I watched it with my mom and she was near tears for a lot of it, kept saying she knew so many people like Mark growing up in Ohio. And now I get emotional when I think of the movie, nothing else like it.

I liked American Movie when it came out 25 years ago. I revisited it last night and it hit me so hard that this piece suddenly came pouring out of me. screencrush.com/american-movie…

This is very good. When it came out, American Movie was a necessary corrective to the '90s idea that anyone could max out their credit cards and become the next Robert Rodriguez or Kevin Smith. But like Ed Wood, it recognizes that there's still a nobility in chasing your dreams.
