NY can raise the public $$ needed to meaningfully address the affordability crisis by raising taxes on NY’s richest.
Both New York Senate Dems & NY Assembly Majority have plans to do so. Governor Kathy Hochul - #TaxTheRich & invest in #NYSUniversalChildCare #RaiseTheWage #NewDeal4CUNY & more.
'Mayor Eric Adams, it's pure evil for you to urge people to wear masks indoors while at the same time moving my brothers and sisters into congregate shelters where they'll sleep unmasked 3ft apart, 30-50 to a room. It’s against CDC guidelines & against doctors' advice.' -Randy Edison
The Mandy K. Cohen, MD, MPH just said: “This moratorium is the right thing to do to keep people in their homes and out of congregate settings where COVID-19 spreads.”
I wonder what she & CDC think about the fact that NYC is moving people out of hotels and *into* congregate shelters?
Thank you to (((Stephen Levin))) 🟣, who championed this bill, & to our Housing Works community & the broad coalition of activists who pressured the Mayor nonstop to implement it ASAP. 1/2
After an action Thursday, we successfully negotiated for a meeting between Mayor Eric Adams's #2 and Randy Edison + NYers currently in hotels, to #StopTheTransfers . Among the questions, Are we supposed to wear masks while we're sleeping? Do our lives matter less than other people?
With today’s welcome decision to activate Intro 146 in September, Homeless Services has the opportunity to house people directly from hotels without them having to return to shelter.
It’s really unfortunate that it has come to this and that transfers will continue this weekend.
Happy Friday!
RT if you think today would be a great day for President Biden to cancel at least $50,000 of student loan debt per borrower. He can and must.
Mayor Eric Adams Ruben Diaz Jr. Glad u r highlighting the BX but there are thousands of NYers u r transferring to deadly covid congregate shelter spaces when they could just stay in the hotels. #StopTheTransfers
