A2. It has to be taught early and modeled daily. It can be like a basketball play at practice. Stop it, rewind it, and go by the 'numbers' if needed. Step by step.

When I was principal at the elementary level, every morning, I'd turn into 'DJ Educ8Nu' over the PA. I'd play a song and the staff would dance and move every morning. It gave students a chance to do the same. Fridays, it was bananas for about 5-7 minutes. Great times.

Invite parents to a 'Power Hour' once a month. Explain a standard. Share data. Receive feedback. Make it relevant. The community will appreciate the effort.

I heard a high school principal say, 'Saying you are an instructional leader is good to say in interviews, but here at *redacted* High School, it's all about discipline. That's what will get you in the news.' Could not be the furthest from the truth.

The principal and assistant principals can be instructional leaders for teachers, but they can also be one for parents if needed.

For parents, that's all most educators ask. So when we reach out, know in good conscience that's all we want. We have to contiue to heal the disconnect (when there is one) between the school and home.

Leaders have to do a better job of aiding teachers who need it to make those connections in order to bridge the relationship gap. Release the responsibility, but keep the expectations.

Student expectations can be simple. Expect the best of yourself; respect yourself; respect the learning facilitator; respect the learning environment; follow reasonable directives.
