The atrocity in Rafah, like atrocity after atrocity already committed in Gaza, is indefensible. The footage is so horrifying that I struggle for words. Leaders of Western states who declared Rafah a red line: where is your spine? Your conscience? Action is long past overdue.

Enjoyed coffee talking to students at their Gaza protest camp this morning, then some ginger honey at Jewish cultural fair nearby. Tour groups circulating, rowers buying panadol, students preparing exams.

Contrary to view in parts of media, Oxford is not tearing itself apart.

I have had the great privilege of reading Carol Atack's new book on Plato and let me tell you it is a TREAT. Everything you need to know about Plato himself, about Socrates, and about Classical Athens, and still a page-turner! I didn't even mind the philosophy.

On a train to Paddington and multiple people in this carriage are having FaceTime conversations from their seats, full volume both sides. Trying to work out how exactly to blame the Tories.

I didn’t share this because I was waiting for American Academy of Arts & Sciences to realize their mistake. I am astonished and humbled by this enormous honor.
