In pleasant peace and security,
How suddenly the soul in a man begins to die.
- Theodore Roosevelt

Do hard things.
Challenge yourself.
Seek discomfort.

Or rot.
Whither away.
Lose yourself.

It’s entirely your choice.

This is the wear pattern of my HOKA Cielo X1. It appears I’m landing right where the cutout is on the sole - there’s rubber loss on both sides of the cutout.

Am I getting the full benefit of this shoe? I’ve enjoyed running in it, for what that’s worth.

Things I've started doing to avoid burnout:

- no work meetings before 7:30AM and after 5PM. If that doesn't work, find someone else.
- I don't bring my laptop on family trips anymore
- I don't respond to emails on vacation anymore
- I keep my phone in silent mode at all times

I paid off my grandma’s mortgage a few years ago, and that’s been the best use of my salary to date.

10/10 would recommend helping others.

The Race: you have no control of the ending. You don’t get to choose your finish time or the weather. Accept this, it’s out of your control.

The Process: you have total control of the training. You can choose your commitment and efforts. Focus on this, it’s all in your control.

Last year, my 6-year-old had a school play. I summoned the courage to ask the Big Law partners for permission to attend. One gave me a lecture about how he worked while his wife was giving birth and another responded, okay, and then promptly removed me from the deal I was working…

The middle is a 74 year old sedentary person.
The bottom is a 70 year old triathlete.

The dark part is the muscle and the light part is the fat.

What you see is that a 70 year old may be able to retain the…

This occurs IRL with alarming frequency. Far too many people are told to fear working out or exercising.
This, of course, is nonsense.
