#blackholeweek 🕳️ doesn't get any better than this!
Seeing the unseeable isn't an easy job. In fact, it's an Earth-sized task! 🌎 But EHT has always been up to the challenge. 🦾

It wouldn't be #BlackHoleWeek if we didn't talk about M87.
This is one of Hubble's most impactful discoveries – confirming that a black-hole-powered stream of material is jetting out from the galaxy M87’s core.
Go inside this image with Dr. Padi Boyd to find out more!
Kicking off #blackholeweek with some of our fave images of black holes (we're partial) over the past 5 years.

#OTD 5 years ago, the Event Horizon 'Scope (EHT) shared the first image ever of a #BlackHole !
The black hole was M87*, and since then, the EHT also imaged Sgr A* (the black hole at the heart of our galaxy) and both objects in polarised light.
Can you say which image matches each? 1/
#OTD in 2019, Event Horizon 'Scope “snapped” the first image of a black hole — M87* at the center of galaxy M87. Scientists have studied it for years, because of its stunning jet. Watch this zoom-in of M87 with visible, X-ray, and radio images, ending on that historic black hole image.
