I listened to this with great interest. The severely absent pupils you discussed are one important group. So too are those who miss the 'occasional' day - which impacts attainment, friendships + well being. Would love to discuss our new analysis with you ow.ly/WIAu50RC6gb

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The question is what can schools do about the Friday phenomena? And I was just trying to point to the creativity of some schools I meet to make Fridays esp. engaging - both in terms of lessons + enrichment. Hope that is clearer. All suggestions welcome!

Thanks to Samantha Booth and Schools Week for a fair + balanced piece on attendance. It highlights how Department for Education are sharing more granular data w schools, trusts + LAs so that they can direct their efforts for max benefit to pupils. The data is here ow.ly/WIAu50RC6gb

After attendance has been the hot topic this week, it was fantastic to see Hewett hit 95.7% today and finally got to that magic 93% YTD. Families, kids and staff have done themselves proud!

Great to be in Manchester to chair the 2nd GM Attendance Action Alliance - powerful discussion about how working together is the answer to supporting all children to be in school - with kindness - and making school the place they want to be. Thank you Kate Green 💙 for hosting 🙌

Dear Ninestiles, an Academy that is wonderful to read! Thank you highlighting this and Department for Education team would love feedback on what tweaks you have made to your approach as a result of seeing your data in this way- or whether it has shown that what you are already doing is working! 🙏

It's positive to see the new Department for Education guidance include a greater focus on the risks of gambling and its subsequent effects.

Another step in the right direction👇

Exactly what we have done and it’s worked very effectively. Fridays are now amongst the best attended days at my school.
