So, in a word - clean energy transitions are cheaper, so if affordability is the goal, governments should speed up the transition, not slow it down. There's lots more to explore in the report, free to download here. iea.li/4cgPMnF

China has gone from being an also-ran exporter of cars to global leader in three years. And guess what: they are exporting electric cars, not burners. And guess what else: our legacy car makers are not competitive. You can debate why, but you cannot pretend this is not a BFD.

A remarkable thing happened in March this year.

For the first time, the fossil fuel rich state of Texas generated more electricity from solar power than from coal.

We welcome NSW Government's new incentives to make household batteries more affordable. Many Australians love rooftop solar, but storage ensures they get the most out of their energy. This will help more NSW residents lower their energy bills and emissions. Penny Sharpe

Missed this story from last week - China's first utility-scale (10 MWh) sodium-ion battery storage plant connected to the grid in Guangxi, built by China Southern Grid.

'With these batteries, storage cost can be reduced by 20% to 30%' the company said.

I often hear people say that without subsidies nobody would invest in renewable energy.

Not quite right. Take solar in sunny Britain: Since 2020 (first year with no subsidies for residential solar) the number of annual installations has increased >5x.

Why is this? Because solar…

Raise your hand if you picked Brazil to come in 3rd for global clean energy investment last year 🖐️

Raise your hand if you picked distributed solar as the primary driver of the breakneck growth🖐️

Put your damn hand down. You and I both had no idea because it's 🤯

The US has almost single handedly kept global gas generation from falling, but the trend is clear: Gas is not going to keep rising for much longer!

Thus beginning a new era of falling power sector generation, leaving 2023 as the historical peak of power emissions.

That's pretty historic.
