The 'Gods and Monsters' episode of Beyond Belief airs today at 3:30 UK time on BBC Radio 4! Then available on BBC Sounds. Check it out if you want to hear a fun conversation between a folklorist, a scholar of Hindu traditions, and me (biblical monsters). bit.ly/MonstrousBible

Just noticed that the ebook of my book Slavery, Gender, Truth, and Power in Luke-Acts and Other Ancient Narratives is on sale for $16.99 right now! Much cheaper than the hardback, if anyone is interested.

Congratulations to Liane M. Feldman on the publication of the Hebrew edition of this important book. Pagination issues aside, This will be invaluable for those teaching and learning Hebrew. A true gift to the academy.

Today (for some) it is Lazarus' feast day. In Classical Antiquity, returning dead were often forbidden to talk about Hades (see Eurydice). In the carols Lazarus asks for water and requests not to be asked about what he saw, elsewhere he barely speaks in his remaining life.

I didn’t share this because I was waiting for American Academy of Arts & Sciences to realize their mistake. I am astonished and humbled by this enormous honor.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please take the time you need for yourself. I returned to grad school a week after my mother's death to teach. I needed the money and the health insurance. I would not encourage anyone to do this. We need to normalize this.
