Never seen much concern in the Tory papers about state schools closing in areas of falling rolls. Indeed this has frequently been celebrated by those on the right as evidence that the “market” is working. Welcome to our world.

£2.5 billion for a half-baked plan for free labour when millions of children come to school hungry, SEND is in crisis & funding disappears to prop up bankrupt councils, when a child waits months for CAMHS, when schools have cut to the bone.

I love this. The thing that always strikes me about Bridget Phillipson is how genuinely invested in education she is, there seems to be a clear desire to improve schools for children. You watch this and you realise just how authentic she is.

Miss Haq saw the value in all her pupils — even the shy girl with plaits in the corner of class. It was lovely to see her again.

Today’s report from the Education Select Committee on retention and recruitment is an indictment of the government’s approach to schools.

Teaching is a wonderful profession. It needs investing in if we are going to inspire the next generation of children.
