Labour candidate Skaith thanks everyone for their help, including his wife and children, along with his amazing staff, Harry, Pete, Scott, as well as his agent Janice.

Richard Flinton announces the North Yorkshire results first, but first...insufferable mic feedback

Ok, hush was a little premature. Chatter has resumed, but the tension hasn't gone away...

All sorts are here, including fellow student media Nouse and YSTV, local: The Press and YO1 Radio, as well as national networks BBC and ITV. And of course, Vision has remained on the scene (spot Matt)

Now provisional results are being privately given to candidates...the media await

In the meantime though, here's the Election Broadcast screen, showing all the counting stations finishing up. The count has taken place in York, Scarborough, Northallerton, and here in Harrogate.

The count seems to have finished now (i.e. the volume of chatter has picked up).

However, the cogs of democracy aren't exactly known for their speed, so bear with us...

We're expecting results to be announced by mid-afternoon!

Observations from Matt: The time is 13:28. the count has been going for two hours, a chatty buzz has filled the room among journalists, party members and counters. There are very few windows that can be seen, so as far as we can tell the weather is beautifully sunny outside.

While we wait, during this nail-biting time, we have a question for you avid followers: why do toilets in conference centres (and other public venues) have two doors, before you enter the bit with the cubicles in?
