That’s five losses in a row and 12 in their last 15. The Mets are now 21-30.

That’s the third consecutive blown save for Edwin Diaz. Some sterling defense from Starling Marte and Brett Baty ensured the damage wasn’t worse.

2-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

How’s that for a moment? Brett Baty, with his back against the wall, comes through with a massive solo shot to give the Mets the lead.

Edwin Diaz, in his first outing back, strikes out two in a scoreless 7th. A big deal as he looks to regain his confidence. He was pretty fired up after the final out. Exited the field to “Edwin Diaz” chants from the fans behind the dugout.

David Peterson stretched out to 89 pitches tonight at Triple-A Syracuse in what should be his final rehab start. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- in four innings.

Peterson produced a 1.14 ERA over six rehab outings, with 35 strikeouts and three walks in 23 2/3 innings.

Carlos Mendoza says Kodai Senga got an MRI on his triceps after experiencing continued discomfort. Tests revealed some inflammation. Senga got a cortisone shot and will be shutdown for 3-5 days. The hope is that he can continue ramping up after that.

The Panthers are a great team. They just played a nearly perfect road playoff game. Adjust. Regroup. Come back on Friday.

With a HR and 2B tonight, Mark Vientos now has 5 XBH in 8 games this season. By comparison, Brett Baty has 6 XBH in 43 games.

We'll see how it all shakes out, but if the Mets decide to make a move and send one down, it's becoming harder and harder to imagine it won't be Baty.

Jalen Brunson asked if he thinks this season is a success given what Knicks have gone through and where they finished: “No.”

Regarding Diaz, I understand the frustration, but some empathy is in order as well. Nobody—and I mean nobody—cares more about performing well for his teammates and the fans. This is eating him alive right now.
