The government has responded to this High Court order, stating that it 'does not intend to carry out enforced removals to Rwanda before the General Election on 4 July 2024'

The FDA's legal challenge against the Safety of Rwanda Act is going ahead on 6 June

Though if the election affects timing of govt actions which might in turn have a bearing on the timing of the case, you can see why the judge would want to know. (And the duty of candour applies of course)

Interesting. Well litigation doesn’t stop for a general election, ministers remain ministers and accountable to the courts for the lawfulness of their actions

3⃣ To kick off day two, at 10:45am, Kate O'Regan Bonavero Institute of Human Rights will chair a discussion on the rule of law, with Robert Buckland, Baroness (Shami) Chakrabarti and Jonathan Jones.

Has the rule of law been undermined recently? And, if so, what should be done to bolster and protect it?

Simon Brown was a great man (and indeed very kind to me, though he had already ascended the heights by the time I was a junior government lawyer). I’m sorry I couldn’t be there yesterday. Great piece Joshua

Rishi Sunak says on BBC Breakfast that flights to Rwanda will go in July. But then caveats that with 'if I'm reelected on the 5th of July, these flights will go.'

It's an admission they will not go before the election.

NB: Penny Mourdant just confirmed in the Commons that the House will be asked to sit on Friday, the day it is due to be prorogued (Commons was due to rise for recess Thursday evening).

So will be two-days wash-up before prorogation on 24 May and dissolution on 30 May
