I had no qualifications and 2 babies, also an abusive partner. Entered the ‘rip off’ from foundation, got the ‘rip off’ Criminology degree and now have a PhD and a lectureship. Didn’t have a rich wife so I had to work for it Rishi Sunak oh you wont get it though! Nevermind.

The primary factor here is the increasingly punitive system. Imprisoning women who often come from vulnerable backgrounds does not solve anything. Instead, it exacerbates their trauma. Have you ever wondered why self-harm and suicide rates are higher in women's prisons?
