Just watched the film “Tarot”. Awful, maddening, badly written, the acting was not great and LOTS of very high pitched screaming. Do not recommend at all.

Vulnerability, stereotypes & toxic masculinity. Covered quite well in 'Open Water' by Caleb Azumah-Nelson & 'That Reminds Me' by Derek Owusu. I know it's not about men, but Candice Carty-Williams' excellent book 'Queenie' covers this really well from a black female point of view.

There’s a violent scarcity of resources/investment for black boys/men & no level of hustling & ego will foster them—only vulnerability, principled conflict, & unified action will do that. It’s okay to not be okay and not yet have problem solutions.

Mental health services, counselling and therapy must be welcoming spaces for Black boys and men… and as we all know it must align with their needs!

I even sighed reading this because there’s so much to impact in the community. I’d start with the damaging impact of raising boys the way we do with the ‘little man of the house/boys don’t cry’ mentality

The multigenerational trauma of boys being systemically pressured to suppress/invalidate their emotional experiences/MH, & the significance in its impact.

From their parents/carers, to social media, friendships and relationships, to continuing the cycle with their own children.
