Here’s the thing. No legislative action is required to get Biden on the ballot, although that’s what the GOP would have you believe. This is a ploy to pass legislation that includes amendments that would silence the voices of citizen led ballot initiatives like CitizensNotPoliticians

The fact that republicans are trying to frame that as “keeping foreign money out of politics” is ridiculous.

It’s keeping THE PEOPLE out of politics.

Let me be very clear:WE DON’T NEED THE LEGISLATURE TO GET BIDEN ON THE BALLOT. Extremist Republicans including the Governor are abusing their power to force a vote to undermine citizen lead ballot initiatives like CitizensNotPoliticians. We must fight back! Demand a clean bill or nothing

Rachel Coyle It really is simple: Republicans are losing on ballot issues, so they want to make it harder for ballot issue campaigns to operate without institutional political support.

Frank LaRose The limit on who can contribute to campaigns and support ballot initiatives is an open attack on free speech. Shame on my fellow Ohio Republicans that support this attack on freedom and democracy.

The truth is…Republicans desperately want Biden on the ballot in Ohio.

Because their lackluster Senate candidate, Moreno, wouldn’t stand a chance against Sherrod Brown straight up.

Moreno needs the lift of a Presidential level turnout to win. In fact, that’s the only way

I support a clean bill giving Biden a place on the ballot. The continued Republican attack on free speech and ballot initiatives is just one of many indications of how the Republican Party has lost touch with its traditional support of freedom and democracy.

Make no mistake, Governor Mike DeWine’s proclamation only strengthens the Senate’s effort to undermine direct democracy in Ohio, rather than focusing on putting on the ballot.

This isn't about Biden. This is about restricting ballot initiatives that voters want to run because the statehouse isn't acting on behalf of the people.

This is not moderate or reasonable behavior. It is more fox guarding the henhouse stuff. Ohioans deserve better.

Democratically (small d) healthy states don't hold presidential ballot access hostage as ransom for their own pet desires. Ohio is not currently a democratically-healthy state. It is, perhaps more than any other state, a reflection of the authoritarian movement in America.

What a sad state of affairs in Ohio that the choices would come down to having to choose between losing the right to vote for a sitting US President or losing the right to freely and fairly amend the Constitution of the state. Yet people vote for Republicans taking our rights.

OHIO HOUSE Rs agreed to pass a clean bill putting Biden on the ballot

OHIO SENATE Rs added poison pills to their 'Biden ballot fix' and then snuck it all into this (previously good) bill:
legislature.ohio.gov/download?key=2…

DeWine asked legislators to pass the Senate version. He's no hero.

The 'foreign money' part of this is pure dog whistle. Allison Russo🌻 is right in saying the legislation to be taken up by the Ohio House in special session will put a burden on citizens trying proposing local ballot issues.
