#Throwback to 1905 when dredging began of the 900-foot-wide slice through the Miami Beach peninsula, creating Government cut, Fisher Island, Dodge Island, Lummus Island, and several smaller islands.

On this day in 1936, Judge Henderson leads Miami’s black laborers to charter the International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO, Local 1416. The ILA represents laborers who load and unload ships from all over the world including cargo and cruise ships.

Students in the #PortMiami @bbbsmiami program, visited the Biscayne Bay Pilots headquarters, learned about maritime pilots’ job duties, and rode aboard a pilot boat.
