New paper today led by Han Hu on the 3D skull of Jeholornis! In addition to the bones, we managed to get some nice insights regarding the sclerotic rings and the endocast: Jeholornis was probably diurnal and had relatively good sense of smell

Hear ye, hear ye! The big-eared Gansu hyena (Gansuyaena megalotis) graces the cover of Vertebrata PalAsiatica. Beautiful art work by friend Mick Ellison. The most complete aardwolf-line hyena known thus far.

Very excited to welcome postdoc Yosef Kiat to the O'Connor lab! He is an ornithologist studying the ecology and evolution of feather molt from fieldwork/collections and we're going to use his expertise to better understand Mesozoic paravians (see our 2020 Microraptor moult paper)

Among saurischians, Tyrannosaurus samples yielded the lowest metabolic rates. Giant sauropods and theropods were true endotherms, rather than gigantotherms.
