This Mother's Day, I'm thinking of the two most important mothers in my life. My wife, @arndreaking, and my mom, Coretta Scott King.

Dad's dream was about more than ending racial segregation. He dreamed of economic justice. He dreamed of the #BelovedCommunity .

We will never stop working, striving and marching for that dream.

We are marching toward a future of peace, justice, and equity. Regardless of the ebbs and flows of the news cycle, we cannot afford to stop.

Organizers and activists keep our country moving forward. I thank every @drummajorinst grantee for building sustainable progress.

We must reject the calls to defund programs and organizations dedicated to advancing racial justice. 'DEI' is not your enemy and it shouldn't be a dog whistle. We must reject this cynical divisiveness.

Gun violence has touched my family more than once. Martin Luther King III's father and grandmother died by gun violence. We choose nonviolence because it's the only methodology that leaves a community whole after conflict. Dr. King knew that nonviolence is love in action.

At the heart of our movement for change is an unyielding commitment to peace. We cannot secure permanent victory unless we reach it through nonviolent resistance. It is the only way to create lasting change.

Today, we remember the 63rd anniversary of the first Freedom Ride. The Freedom Rides gained national attention and forced intervention by the federal government, which helped secure civil rights and further erode Jim Crow.

The journey to the Promised Land is long and arduous. We must always stand together, united in our commitment to decency and democracy. We must work as one to realize the dream and build the #BelovedCommunity .
