Illegal rent increases are taking place all over the country but the Government is taking no action.

We cannot expect renters to police these regulations when doing so could risk eviction.

The Government needs to step up and enforce its own laws.

The Housing Commission estimates that Ireland’s housing deficit from pent-up demand is as high as 256,000 homes.

Meanwhile the govt continues to fail to meet its own inadequate social and affordable housing targets.

24,000 people are now experiencing hidden homelessness in Ireland.

People are sleeping in cars, on couches and in offices.

That's nearly 38,000 people now homeless including those living in hostels.

The Social Democrats put forward an amendment to establish a specific zoning for affordable housing.

This is successfully used in other European cities to ensure a continuous supply of affordable homes.

The Gov like to talk about solution but vote them down every chance they get.

The state is paying €960,000 to rent a home for 25 years.

Only to hand it back after 25 years.

This evening the Dáil votes on a Social Democrats proposal to introduce a zoning for affordable housing.

This is a key feature of housing delivery in Vienna – one of the most affordable cities to live in Europe.

The Government is spending €3.24 billion on exorbitant long term leasing deals.

These lucrative deals can cost upwards of €750,000 to rent a social home for 25 years.

This money would be much better used to directly to build social homes.

Some landlords are being advised to leave homes empty for 2 years to avoid rent regulations.

There should never be a financial incentive to leave homes empty in a housing crisis.
