This turn around is result of carefully-timed cuts by Nosterfield Nature Reserve volunteers; now the hay is used to enrich other grasslands. As well as Wood Cranesbill, plants like Water Avens & Lady's-mantle recall the flora of upland meadows higher up Swaledale, a nationally rare habitat.

Some of the Scarce Tufted Sedge (Carex cespitosa) being grown at Nosterfield Nature Reserve habitat creation nursery. Among Britain's most endangered plants, these are being grown for Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust's species recovery project.

We are going for wet & dry Nosterfield Nature Reserve habitat creation nursery. We've plenty of Great Water Dock (Rumex hydrolapathum) for the fen. Dropwort (Filipendula vulgaris) from seed collected from Thornborough middle Henge is coming into flower & will be returned to the Henge.

A well-stocked habitat creation nursery greeted those attending the Nosterfield Nature Reserve open day today. Lovely weather for it, with moths, bird ringing, wetland creation and henges too. As always, a tribute to the volunteers who keep it all going.

We can't believe it has been five years since we opened Ripon City Wetlands nature reserve! On Sunday, 10-2pm we will be having a mini-celebration event, with guided walks, family activities and a coffee van, so please pop down and say hello, and find out all about this fab site.

Fibrous Tussock-sedge (Carex appropinquata) Nosterfield Nature Reserve habitat nursery, grown from seed ex Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - North Yorkshire Askham Bog nr York. Mature plants have recently been planted out at the donor site to reinforce the small population of this rare sedge, only know from 2 Yorks sites.
