So. Yesterday this happened for In all honesty I’m still sad and furious that it had to happen at all. So many lost jobs and a legacy. But Mayflower Theatre are absolutely the right bunch to be taking over. Look forward to coming down for a grand reopening.

Yesterday the NSTheatres building was handed over to its new operators Mayflower Theatre. I’m a huge fan of the Mayflower Theatre and of its CEO, Michael Ockwell, both as a person in terms of how he operates but also his passion for community and artist development. This is (1/5)

Can't understand why this could not have happened with stakeholders support WITHOUT forcing NSTheatres into administration ?

I toured to NST in 2018. The lifts were, as everyone now knows, a nightmare. But it was one of the largest audiences on that tour, and easily the most diverse. The next day I ran a workshop for a fantastic group of emerging artists. Whatever went on, they were getting lots right.

Because it’s the people who bring the place to life, not the bricks. It’s the social value that the activity brings to the city. We need to stand up for our people.
