When Earth’s water cycle runs too fast, flooding can result, threatening lives and property. That risk is increasing as climate change alters precipitation patterns and more people are living in flood-prone areas worldwide. The SWOT mission can improve flood predictions ⤵️

🚀The launch date is set for the first of a pair of CubeSats!

'Ready, Aim, PREFIRE' will launch on a Rocket Lab Electron NET May 22 from Mahia, New Zealand. PREFIRE will improve climate predictions by measuring Earth's energy loss in the Arctic regions.

How much water is in Earth's rivers? 💧

Using stream-gauges & computer models, a NASA-led study estimates how much water is in Earth’s rivers, the rate it flows into the ocean, & how that’s changing. The data are crucial for managing freshwater supplies. go.nasa.gov/49X1BO7

An explosive volcanic eruption in Indonesia last week launched volcanic aerosols 12 miles (20 kilometers) into the stratosphere. These tiny particles have a cooling effect. But the amount of material from this eruption was too small to cause significant climate impacts.

Some possible outcomes for global sea level rise are considered highly unlikely – but still might be important to coastal planners assessing risk over decades. A new study explores how to convey uncertainty to planners and other users of scientific data.
