As I began my second term, a 15-year-old stood in court accused of stabbing another teenager to death in Leeds.

We’ve shown over the last three years that devolution is working for West Yorkshire.

But as we move forward, with deeper devolution and a new mayor for York and North Yorkshire, we can begin to truly unlock the collective power of one unified voice for Yorkshire.

A suspect has now been arrested and I would like to thank everyone who shared the appeal and provided information to the police.

More must be done to support victims of domestic abuse.

West Yorkshire Police is leading the way on a pilot to charge high-risk suspects quickly.

I welcome the recommendations from the Charging Commission, which included West Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing & Crime, and work to help more victims get justice.
