Even a former Tory MP who supported Brexit is backing Labour at the election, saying the party could 'bring back optimism into British life'. Stick to the plan, Rishi Sunak will tell us.

Good to see the Tory party taking such an interest in Diane Abbott. Maybe they should hand back the £10m from the donor who said she 'made him want to hate all black women' and that he wanted to shoot her?

Going through the papers this morning with Rosie Wright.

The Times on Sunak and interest rates.

The Telegraph on Diane Abbott story.

Guardian on the closure of the Evening Standard’s daily edition.

(What, the Daily Mail isn’t leading with Angela Rayner’s vindication?)

If Labour thinks Diane Abbott should have the whip restored it should allow her to stand as an MP. It can’t be one or the other. This is a mess that needs sorting.

Iain Dale’s departure from LBC will be a great loss to the station and to the huge - and growing - number of people who listened to him. 14 years is a fantastic run. Credit to Iain Dale for giving up one of the best jobs in the world to pursue his dream of becoming an MP.

After 'a thorough, carefully considered and proportionate investigation', Angela Rayner faces no police action. Assume this will be front page news in the Sun, Mail and Telegraph?

Tory governments have failed young people again and again and again over the past 14 years. Now Rishi Sunak and his team are turning them into scapegoats for Conservative failure, and making up policy on the back of an envelope.

On Thursday, the literal day Rishi Sunak called the election, a Tory minister said there were no plans for National Service of any sort. Three days later it becomes a flagship policy.

'When Rishi Sunak called the election a minister said there was no plan to bring back national service.'

Matthew Stadlen says contradictory pledges are a 'shambles' and indicative of a party flying by the seat of their pants.

Should parents be fined if their teenagers refuse national service?

A minister has said that parents could receive a bill if their children don't participate in Rishi Sunak's scheme.

But is that fair?

NEW: The Conservatives would upgrade the Triple Lock for pensioners with an extra income tax cut.

The new 'Triple Lock Plus' would raise pensioners' tax-free allowance each year.

National service for the young, tax cuts for the old. Big difference in the generational offering!
