Across the Blue Wall, Tory MPs are folding in the face of Lib Dem challengers and standing down.

They know lifelong Tory voters are switching to us because they’re fed up with years of chaos under this government while the NHS is in crisis and rivers are ruined by sewage.

And here is a prime example of what govt's utter failure to protect our rivers actually looks like.

NEW: Lib Dem leader Ed Davey to table motion of no confidence in government when Parliament returns tomorrow, in bid to force June general election.

(Bit of a stunt as, even if Labour & SNP back such a vote, the Tories still have a big majority.)

It is the stupidest thing you could possibly do. And therefore I suppose the most likely outcome. But surely someone, some last vestige of a thinking being in Downing Street, will convince him against it.

Can't quite believe Sunak would hold an election in Dec/Jan. You'd be pilloried for needlessly ruining Christmas. You'd be conducting it in the depths of a winter NHS crisis. And you'd be asking a predominantly older volunteer force to campaign for you in the cold and the dark.

Of course we already have a “coalition of chaos” under the Tories, who are more focused on fighting each other like rats in a sack than delivering for the British people.

The Lib Dems have won more councillors than the Conservatives for the first time since *1996*.

The next election is looking disastrous for the Tories in both the Blue Wall and the Red Wall.

Incidentally, only once before (1996) have the Lib Dems won more seats than the Conservatives at a local elections.

Lib Dems have beaten the Tories into 3rd across the country. Utterly amazing. This is surely the biggest story of this election. Currently waiting for certain commentators to stop waffling on about those losers at Reform and update their hot takes… 😉
