I also notice stay at home parents β€” including carers for chronically ill disabled children & then adult children β€” also have no value in the eyes of Tory UK.

Lily Bailey Yup. I've had 3 long periods (over 1 year, max 7) where I haven't been able to work due to depression/anxiety. I'd have loved to have been in work, earning a wage. Thanks, Rishi, for basically saying I don't deserve dignity and security because my brain f'ed up.

Lily Bailey This! A billion times. It’s also so hard to find your identity if you can’t work in a society that places value on tangible achievements.

Your worth should not be tied to your ability to work. A great many people cannot work either for periods or permanently because of disability and illness, to suggest they don’t deserve the same security and dignity is deeply ableist

I think about this often. But what scares me is that some people seem to be increasingly desensitised to violence and tragedy as it becomes the accepted norm when it comes to certain lives and parts of the world.

I’m so chuffed to see this. I’ve got so much love for this book, and it’s sequel. Extremely readable and with characters you truly get to understand and care about. I hope winning the Adrien Prize helps get it into the hands of lots of new readers. Congratulations Lily Bailey!

I’ve been really struggling with both my mental health (OCD up the wall) and confidence lately. This is such an incredible boost that it’s hard to get a sentence out about it. Thank you everyone at The Adrien Prize, this means more than I can say

Lily Bailey Does feeling ill or well feel the same?. Perhaps on my best day I only feel as well as you feel all the time. Or vice versa. But I can't really compare this or whether you and I see green as the same thing. If we could swap bodies for 10 minutes I think we would be amazed.
