Vitamin C biosynthesis in plants & animals is catalyzed by a somewhat similar flavoenzyme. Yet, in plants, it is a dehydrogenase with dissociable FAD, in animals an oxidase with covalent FAD. By ASR we have analyzed the evolution of these enzymes. nature.com/articles/s4146…
