I am under no illusion that the potential of the #VictimsLaw may not be fulfilled if the next Govt does not prioritise urgent reform of our criminal justice system. Prisons should rehabilitate, reduce re-offending & victimisation & not create more victims. thetimes.com/uk/crime/artic…
Fantastic news. Thanks to the tireless campaigning of Victims’ Commissioner London & many others, the Victims and Prisoners Bill has finally become legislation.
This is long overdue and puts victims at the heart of our criminal justice system. It’s vital this now delivers meaningful change.
After a decade of campaigning, I am about to go into the public gallery and watch the Victims’ Bill on its final journey before becoming legislation. Hoping Government will agree to our wins in the House of Lords . Updates to follow. #victimslaw
Great to hear about the success of Project Shield in North Yorkshire Police. This has the potential to transform our approach to safeguarding domestic abuse victims, through better monitoring of protective orders. This innovative work should be expanded to include more areas & more orders
A welcome position from Metropolitan Police. This is a crisis of Government’s own making, & victims should not be made to pay the price. Public safety needs to be at the heart of any decisions, & victims should not have their justice delayed or even threatened by arrests not being made.
Thank you to Lord Marks Lib Dem Lords for raising the terrible impact that Parole hearings have on bereaved families, forcing them to frequently relive their trauma and feeling trapped in the process, and for raising the experiences of Theresa Cave Theresa Cave
'The courts are meant to be open to any who want to observe, for whatever reason'. An important message on transparency CourtWatch London. Victims are deterred from attending & no audio recording means that justice is far from open. The Magistrates Court should be a court of record.
Yesterday I spoke to BBC London highlighting the vital service of Woman's Trust . Counselling is what domestic abuse victims say they need most, but too many are struggling to access this support. More investment needed to ensure these lifeline services are easily accessible
ICYMI we and Victims’ Commissioner London were on BBC London earlier, talking about mental health and domestic abuse and explaining why the mental health impact cannot be ignored any longer - catch up here (from around 10 minutes in): bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod…

Our chair, Niki Scordi, is on BBC London this morning along with some of our survivors and Victims’ Commissioner London talking about our pioneering work addressing the impact of domestic abuse on #MentalHealth . Some info below 👇🏽
This #MHAW , BBC London will be highlighting the life-saving work of Woman's Trust and the profound impact of domestic abuse on mental health. Watch BBC Politics London tomorrow at 10am, as I call on Government to ensure victims can easily access these critical services.
Great meeting today with Stamp Out Spiking and Night Czar to talk about next steps for addressing this awful crime. Seen positive steps from Government recently but much more multi-agency work needed to raise awareness and support victims at a local and national level.
This #MHAW week I visited Woman's Trust who offer life-saving services of counselling and peer support for domestic abuse survivors.
With a suspected abuse related suicide every 4 days, more funding is needed to address mental health impacts of DA.

Thanks Jess Phillips MP for highlighting this. Court awarded compensation ties victims to their offenders for years, allowing abusers to exert control. In cases like economic abuse, domestic abuse and stalking, judges should seek victims' views on what best supports their recovery
