Climate crisis continues to impact Afghans who have contributed Zero emissions but face its devastating impacts

Urgent support to scale up humanitarian assistance is needed as more floods impact vulnerable communities. Underscoring the critical need for sustained Climate adaptation & mitigation.

The Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) remains the main funding platform for providing life saving humanitarian assistance to millions by UN, INGO and National Partners. The international community needs to step up support this critical lifeline for the people of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan remains amongst the world’s top 10 climate impacted countries while having no significant carbon footprint. Climate shocks continues to ravage vulnerable communities. Urgent support for climate adaptation & mitigation for the people of Afghanistan is a critical need.

On 30 April, the Afghanistan Humanitarian Coordinator Indrika Ratwatte visited Torkham crossing point in Nangarhar Province & saw firsthand the vital work of UN agencies & partners in aiding Afghan returnees from Pakistan. Their dedication is crucial for supporting those in need.

The ‘23 Results Report #Afghanistan 👇highlights the unwavering commitment of UN, partners, generous donors to the people of Afghanistan. We streamlined our initiatives with #UNSFA objectives & SDGs & remain dedicated to the prosperity, the fulfillment of rights for all Afghans.

The silent killer!! millions of unexploded ordinances scattered throughout Afghanistan. Resources for Mine action needs to be sustainable & ramped up.

Malnutrition remains a serious issue in Afghanistan particularly for children. Critical resources to sustain food security & Strategic investments in food systems remains urgent. A national nutrition survey to gather comprehensive country data is now a priority.

Since 2021, most #Afghans have seen their earnings decrease or disappear. Earthquakes & forced returns worsened the crisis, hitting women & children the hardest.

In 2023, despite the challenges posed by three 6.3 magnitude earthquakes in Herat Province & a sudden influx of nearly 500K Afghans from Pakistan in the last quarter of the year, humanitarian actors reached 29.4M ppl with much-needed assistance.

Fatima like many dedicated Afghan women continue to impact the lives of thousands of Afghans one person at a time. Her courage, commitment & work needs continued robust support from the international community.

It’s the height of winter in #Afghanistan where families are exposed to temperatures of up to -12°C at night. Since Oct 2023, #humanitarian actors have been providing #shelter , warm clothes, #food , & #health kits to the most vulnerable popns but more is needed to sustain them.

For more than 60 years, WFP in #Afghanistan has delivered food to families in need.

Now matter how difficult the journey, we continue to deliver.
