In May's ICN report, it shows that investing in nursing is not a cost, it saves money- having a healthy population could boost global GDP by $12 trillion. Countries need 70 nurses for every 10,000 citizens to reach Universal Health Coverage; so 30.6M more nurses are needed!

To transform care, a united voice on key issues is crucial. Nursing has got what politicians want and need, but nurses have not yet convinced politicians of this because not all nurses have convinced themselves. International Nurses Day 12th May, let's articulate our added value.

Nursing has never known the power that comes from true unity, nor what such power would be capable of – but it would be a force for good. Governments don't relish this because If nurses spoke with one voice, the power emanating from such a workforce would move political mountains

Nursing is the LARGEST health profession, one of the OLDEST and MOST DEDICATED with the GREATEST AMOUNT OF CONTACT with the public. But, we are not the most POWERFUL, not the BEST EDUCATED, not the BEST PAID OR RESOURCED, not the MOST POLITICALLY ASTUTE OR ACTIVE. WHY NOT?
