Marsh Fritillaries seem to be following me around! Approximately 10 today while checking out sites for the upcoming Greenwings Cotswolds Orchid days.
Selatosomus melancholicus is a Click Beetle with a patchy range across mainland Europe, but the only place it occurs in Britain or Ireland is Belmullet, Co Mayo. Nearest sites the Alps or Pyrenees! Great finish to our Ireland trip!

EXCITED!
During our last 2 days in Ireland, following our Greenwings tour, we explored new sites, & appear to have found a new, large population of 'machair' Pugsley's Marsh Orchids in a truly stunning location. Awaiting BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland ref.

After a successful Greenwings Emerald Isle tour, an afternoon on the machair in western Mayo today, with an exemplary reserve full of breeding waders and Irish Hares, a coast full of beauty...oh, and a bar full of local sustenance ❤️🤪
Early Marsh Orchid red variety (Dactylorhiza incarnata var. coccinea) County Sligo, 20/05/2024. Thanks to Sean Cole and Mike Waller who led a great Greenwings tour in north-west Ireland this week. Wild Orchids UK & Ireland.
Irish Marsh Orchids in abundance on the last full day of the Greenwings Emerald Isle tour. More gardens in Belmullet distract the passing driver with their displays!
Add to that a very vocal Corncrake on a beautiful windswept headland & today couldn't have been any better 🤗😍
It may not look much, but a very rare sight in the UK: - Lesser and Common Twayblades side by side.
A first for me and a great find by Mike Waller on our Greenwings Emerald Isle tour.
Mike Waller and I are piling up the Orchids on the Greenwings Orchids of the Emerald Isle Tour, but the butterflies are proving to be an equal attraction!
Beautiful Marsh Fritillary and Cryptic Wood White are the stars so far 🦋😍
First day of the Greenwings Emerald Isle trip today, with a recce prior to the arrival of guests.
Four Orchid species so far.
Looking down on Dense-flowered orchids isn't as effective as Burnt Orchid 😀
