Our nationally-awarded “Volunteers in Police Service” program has 58 VIPs. Those who serve in vehicle patrol are an extra pair of eyes in neighborhoods to do vacation checks, place road blocks during car wrecks, and give stranded motorists a helping hand!

Thanks to our dedicated police volunteers known as VIPS, hundreds of cases are prepared and organized for our Criminal Investigations Division. We appreciate their diligence to help so that detectives can devote more of their time to assigned cases.

We're proud to participate in the Medal of Honor Motorcade. The recipients will be passing through our city on their way to Gainesville. We are grateful to these heroes and honor them with unending respect. Expect delays in the area as the 8-9 mile long motorcade passes.

The Grapevine range is a place where volunteer Ed Peters preps and secures the training facility and oversees scheduling of sessions for new and experienced officers. We appreciate his attentive nature and dedication to the department as one of our VIPS.

This week we celebrate our Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) during National Volunteer Week. Last month these eight individuals earned a Gold presidential award for volunteering over 500 hours each in 2023. We could not be as successful without their help and we thank them.

Today marks the start of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. This year's theme asks all of us how we can help crime victims. Thank you to Mayor William D. Tate for issuing a proclamation, and thank you to our Victim Services Advocate Makayla Moore for supporting our community.

We redesigned the dispatch room with our emergency communications specialists in mind. The reconfiguration promotes teamwork by rotating away their walls of monitors. We value our dispatchers and continue thinking of them this National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Some days, our 'traffic control' looks a little different. We love these opportunities to ensure elementary students have a safe journey on field trips near their school. Especially after some challenging calls, these smiling faces and high-fives are priceless.
