The sheer amount of energy needed to mine, refine, and transport fossil fuels is astounding.

For example, 1% of total US energy consumption is down to merely the transport of natural gas, per Saul Griffith. That's more energy than needed to get US children to school and back.

I hate to break it to you but >80% of new generation capacity built is now renewable energy, mainly solar and wind.
