CA is 5th in the nation for unresolved MMIP cases. One cause is a 1953 federal law that had a devastating effect on public safety on tribal lands. Read more about the law, Public Law 280, and what we are trying to do about it.

We had an informative roundtable this morning about Public Law 280 with members of the Select Committee on Native American Affairs and Public Safety. Thank you to the members and presenters whose input will help us meet the challenges to tribal public safety posed by PL 280.

Happy to report AB 2520 passed out of committee 9-0! The bill would take the necessary steps of requiring continuums of care to have youth specific coordinated entry systems. Thanks to David Baker and Kim Lewis for Youth for testifying in support.

Today in our 1st Budget Sub 6 committee which deals with public safety, experts shared their expertise & new tech tools to fight retail theft and other spiking crimes. Kudos to CHP, Beverly Hills PD, DOJ. This will help to keep communities safe; more to learn in future meetings.
