It was never poor people keeping the system afloat, it turns out.

An exact example of how poor people don’t uphold these systems, that’s a HUGE amount of extra expendable $$. And then saying she’ll donate it like it won’t just get dumped on global south countries:

I'm so so glad you're doing. Six months is a long time (but I'm certain you can do it)! I'm still using all my existing beauty products which are open and will continue until I see a significant decrease in the current lot. It's satisfying to have a clear out!

The problem with not respecting and acknowledging the labor of others is rife in our society but ESPECIALLY in the conversation about fashion. It is there when people expect unreasonably low prices for clothes. It's there when people get mad at resellers. It's there for my work.

The way society has turned overconsumption into a status symbol and waste into something to aspire to is really horrifying to watch. (I never have more than a few perfumes at a time because they go off and it takes me years to use up a bottle. I'm also particular about scents).
