Today we observe the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. On this Day of Remembrance, we honor the memories of those who lost their lives and we honor the courage and endurance of those who survived.

On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day today, we remember the 1.5 million victims of the 1915 genocide, and we also recognize the 150,000 indigenous Armenians displaced from their land since the 2020 Artsakh War.

On #ArmenianGenocideRemembranceDay , we commemorate the 1.5 million Armenians who lost their lives to the Ottoman government and pledge to never again allow such a tragedy to occur.

I stand with the Armenian community in Southern California and around the country.

Today we remember the 1.5 million lives lost in the Armenian Genocide 109 years ago. I was proud to play a part in the U.S. finally acknowledging the Armenian Genocide for the first time in 2021—a long overdue effort.

That dark chapter of history must never be forgotten.

It was 109 years ago today that the #ArmenianGenocide began, the Ottoman Empire’s systematic annihilation of 1.5 million Armenians, 300 thousand Assyrians, and countless Greeks. Most Armenians alive today, including me, are descendants of the survivors.

Today, April 24, marks the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This photo is from last year’s commemoration in Stepanakert, capital of (now ethnically cleansed) Nagorno-Karabakh. How does one commemorate genocide during genocide?
