History has shown us time & time again that respect for human rights is the only way to achieve sustainable peace, security & development.

It's time leaders act accordingly.

Leaving Chile after a fruitful visit, hoping that we all learn from the lessons of the past for the present. Impressed by Londres 38, espacio de memorias and their work on memorialising for a better future.

Suppression, criminalisation & attacks against journalists are being met w/ impunity.

This cannot become our status quo.

In this crucial election year, we must ensure Govts protect our right to hold those in power to account & speak out when needed

Disinformation is deepening divides, fueling crises around the world; while free press is under attack.

Just last year, 71 journalists killed, 320 imprisoned.

#WorldPressFreedomDay is a chance to stand for truth, protect those bravely working to uncover it & counter oppression.

Important gathering of all leaders of the multilateral system in Santiago de Chile, with human rights underpinning it.

Since 2016, 2,691 rights defenders were killed. Over 1/2 were environmental defenders.

This is unacceptable.

2024 is the biggest election year in history- a tremendous opportunity for change. Don't let it go to waste. Vote for defenders. For our planet. For our rights Global Citizen ⭕

Glad to be in #Chile - a country whose journey towards truth, justice & reconciliation reminds us that human rights are the foundation for healing & way forward. Grateful to have met President Gabriel Boric Font, senior officials & civil society to continue advancing this crucial work.

I am deeply moved by the Memory and Human Rights Museum in Santiago, Chile. I pay tribute to the victims of grave human rights violations, their families, and all who have been courageously and relentlessly searching for truth and justice.

The oppression of half of humanity holds everyone back. Yet women & girls continue to be pushed away from decision-making & action.
 
To end poverty, horrific civilian suffering in war & rampant climate change, women's voices & contributions must be central to everything we do.

Heartened by landmark win for human rights & environment with European Parliament's adoption of key #BizHumanRights directive.

This is a leap towards protecting people & our planet from exploitation.

Look forward to its final adoption & swift implementation in line with #UNGPs . #CSDDD

Syria's conflict has caused too much loss & grief.

Leaving the #DRC with a heavy heart. There must be an all-out effort to end the suffering of those affected by horrific violence. This includes investing in the conflict-hit east to provide security & services and rebuild the social contract between the people and Govt.
