We’ve launched the new system for identifying uninsured vehicles - developed in partnership with our stakeholders - today on our national insurance enforcement day which is currently taking place across the country.

Since January, the system has led to the seizure of 7,307 vehicles across the country for being driven uninsured.
In April alone, we seized 1,840 vehicles for the offence.

The new system eliminates the need for Gardaí to manually check a driver’s insurance as it scans the reg and pings their Garda Mobility Device if any motor insurance offence is disclosed.
It also checks for a valid NCT, tax and if you’re a qualified/licenced driver.

We spotted the driver of this HGV on the phone while driving near Ardee, Co. Louth.
They were stopped and given a fine there and then.

Gardaí were on patrol in Co. Meath when they pulled in this driver for holding her phone while driving. It was especially alarming for us to then learn that she had no licence to drive, no insurance, tax or NCT.
The car was seized on the spot.

On Monday evening, the Roads Policing Unit on patrol in Laois stopped this vehicle in Durrow.
The young driver had no driving licence or insurance, the car wasn't taxed and it had no valid NCT so we seized it.

Gardaí in Co. Westmeath came upon this tractor the other evening being driven by a 14 year old with a 13 year old passenger.
It was uninsured and hadn’t been taxed in just short of 11 years.
You must be 16 years of age or above and licensed to drive a tractor.

Local Gardaí on patrol in the van this morning were down just off Dublin’s North Quays and noticed a very worn tyre on this truck as they went by.
On closer inspection, there was a second dangerously defective tyre on the vehicle.
