Absolutely *fizzing* mad here in Sicily. Arrived at a spectacular site for Ophrys oxyrhynchos to find literally hundreds of recently dug holes, and most of the orchids removed. This is orchid theft on a massive scale.

12/5/24 Cumbria - The Fly #Orchids (Ophrys insectifera) are coming along nicely, though I do wonder why goons trample this site when you can easily pick the best plants off from the tarmac. The Coralroots (Corallorhiza trifida) are going over but some remain fab #wildflowerhour

1.- Empezaré por la creo que tengo más segura y que es un espectáculo de flor: OPHRYS SPECULUM.
Ese espéculo tiene un brillo metálico lila como esmaltado 😍

Como no podía ser de otra forma, las orquídeas del género /Ophrys/ tienen una taxonomía muy controvertida. Los autores menos conservadores elevan su cifra en la península ibérica por encima de las 35 especies, lo que supone el grupo más numeroso entre nuestras orquídeas.

The missing link: these three Ophrys hybrids in Dorset have a story to tell. If only they could talk, though, as how they got there will never be known. One of the parent species, Ophrys scolopax, isn't even native to Britain.

Alles staat hier prachtig in bloei. Zeer zeldzame planten gezien en ook die louter alleen op dit eiland voorkomen, zoals de Ophrys lesbis (afb. 3).
