Leonardo da Vinci first understood why you can see the outline of the unlit Moon when in a thin crescent phase. It’s Earthlight reflected back at us, and is officially called Earthshine. But I prefer to call it Moonshine.

Tonight's Waxing Crescent moon illumination at 1.8% with earthshine is such an amazing and peaceful image to see during a clear night on 5/9/24.

태양빛을 받지 못 하는 달의 밤 부분은 사실 완전히 어두운 것이 아니라 희미하게 보일 수 있습니다. 이는 지구에서 반사된 태양빛도 달을 비추기 때문입니다. 이를 지구조(Earthshine) 현상이라고 합니다.

In the 3 minutes I had during totality, I managed to fire off one frame with the Hasselblad 500C using a 250 mm (150 mm equiv.) Carl Zeiss lens. Managed to capture Earthshine, coronal detail, and the eclipse during a cloud break. Details and BTS video below ⬇️
