Something funny that happened over the last 3 decades is how it became totally taboo to tell a kid they're just not very bright so now we have 19-yos who can't comprehend text or do basic math in college with complicated 'accomodation lists' or 'individual learning plans'

Emily♡ I can relate to the ADHD part definitely but also with the dyscalculia part which I'm still learning. I've never been very good with numbers and whenever there's numbers on a piece of paper, I utterly lose it. I can't really function much.

I have a Masters of Arts in International Relations and received the Gilman Scholarship to travel to the UK, one of the most competitive countries, during my BA. I can't do basic math. It's called dyscalculia. Shut the hell up.

latke My mother- who retired teaching university in her 80s- started each semester talking about her dyscalculia & how she wished she’d known it was a disability rather than feeling shame. She worked closely with FITs disability office & made accommodations. She wanted student success

I can think of something that's worse. It's sitting back and allowing the teaching profession to haemorrhage professionals. It's failing to recruit new professionals. It's failing to fund SEND provision. It's running school buildings into the ground.
