'Away from it All' is a short 1979 support film which was screened before 'Monty Python's Life of Brian', narrated by John Cleese. A spoof of travelogues from the '60s and '70s, it starts seriously...

Henry James called him a genius in this very insightful remark.

One of the very best (and funniest) travelogues in recent years, Abroad in Japan charts a decade of living in a foreign land and the chaos and culture clash that came with it.

Perfect for fans of Bill Bryson, Nick Bradley and Adam Kay. And yes, there are cats.

Remembering Balraj Sahni on his birth anniversary today.
Rabindranath Tagore motivated Balraj Sahni to write in his mother language Punjabi, when he was a teacher of hindi in Shanti Niketan.
He then wrote some great books in Punjabi, including a memoir and few travelogues.

March 28th. Nightly lows in the 40's in the forecast. It's like being in detention in High School and seeing that you've only got 5 minutes left until freedom.

I'll be hitchhiking again within two weeks.

Travelogues will be posted exclusively on my newsletter. Link in profile.

The two conceptually strongest films from the competition are, in fact, visual travelogues. Both Jia Zhangke's CAUGHT BY THE TIDES and Gomes' GRAND TOUR meditate on the idea of characters being captured amidst the motion of a changing (trans-)cultural trajectory.

The tree line was much higher than today, and there were hardly any glaciers. Glaciers are not mentioned in any of the detailed travelogues from Roman times.”

What unfolded in the next few seconds left us shaken to the core. That Gypsy was just a foot away from ours, and now it had a tigress inside it attacking the tourists while we were just 4-5 feet away!

We've noticed that when people on Twitter discuss their favorite Route 66 books, they often focus on guides. Tools are always awesome and we have some really good ones, thankfully, but we seldom see the same enthusiasm for stories. Why is that? Why are travelogues that focus on
